Athletic trainer and concussion resources
Athletic trainer
Athletic trainers are healthcare professionals who collaborate with physicians and specialize in prevention, emergency care, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of sport-related injuries and illnesses.
Our athletic trainer is Jenny Newell, a full-time faculty member, available to help ASL students with injuries and injury prevention.
At ASL for more than 10 years, Jenny has spent 20+ years as a certified athletic trainer. Before moving to London, Jenny was head athletic trainer at Powdersville High School in Greenville, SC; Wren High School in Easley, SC; and Rye Neck High School in Mamaroneck, NY. Jenny is originally from Irmo, SC, and graduated from Dutch Fork High School in 1996. She holds a bachelor's degree in physical education from the University of South Carolina, with an emphasis on athletic training, and a cognate in sports management. She went on to work as a graduate assistant at Manhattan College in New York City. Jenny loves all sports, but particularly enjoys supporting USC Gamecocks women’s basketball, Charlotte FC and Tottenham Hotspur.
Owing to the flexible and changing nature of athletics, Jenny has office hours at ASL from 11:30 am to 3:05 pm, after which she is either traveling with teams or out at practices. If you need to arrange a meeting or an injury evaluation, please call or email her to set a time.

Medical waiver form
The Medical Waiver Form, below, is mandatory before participating in ASL Athletics. A parent or guardian must complete the form on behalf of the student. If required, you must also complete the Physical Examination Form. This form is required only once per year, and is different from the online health form.
If you do not wish to sign the waiver form below, please, fill in this form and send it to doreen_murphy@asl.org.
Medical Waiver Form
"I certify that my child, listed above, has my permission to participate in ASL interscholastic sports during the 2024-25 school year. I will not be providing a Medical History and Physical Examination form, but I believe my child to be physically fit and able to participate in athletics.
In case of injury to my child, I authorize the coach of the team concerned to take my child to any medical/dental center for examination as is necessary if I cannot be contacted. (Please note, we are advised by lawyers that the coach will not be able to give consent for medical treatment, but it is probable that the admitting doctor will assume this responsibility in an emergency.)
In the event of any accident or injury occurring during the participation of my child, named above, in the athletics program of The American School in London, he/she/I will not hold The American School in London liable in any way."
