Lower school after-school program

The lower school after-school program provides an opportunity for children to engage in educational activities in an atmosphere where social, rather than academic, development is emphasized.

The program is designed to offer ASL children an opportunity to socialize and to practice or learn skills and sports and pursue hobbies in a safe, friendly and non-competitive environment. Our hope is that children will try new classes and perhaps develop a new interest or passion along the way!

Philosophy

The program provides an opportunity for children to engage in educational activities in an atmosphere where social, rather than academic development is emphasized.
The program is designed to offer ASL children an opportunity to socialize and to practice or learn skills and sports and pursue hobbies in a safe, friendly and non-competitive environment.
Our hope is that children will try new classes and perhaps develop a new interest or passion along the way.
Although some classes are developmental, if your child chooses to re-take an activity there may be repetition of class content.
ASL teachers believe students should not be overloaded with activities after school. We strongly suggest that parents consider children’s commitments, such as tutoring, scouting and music lessons, when registering for the program.
We encourage parents to help their children commit to their chosen classes as part of their learning experience. That commitment also helps us to be confident in our class numbers before confirming classes as ‘healthy’ to both parents and IPoP teachers.

Registration

Online registration opens on Thursday August 24 and closes at 12 noon on Tuesday August 29.
If you would like to register your child for classes, submit the online registration by 12 noon Tuesday August 29.
Parents will be asked to sign up online, with classes allocated according to demand (as far as possible). Invoices will be issued at a later date, once the spring term has settled.
Parents will be able to view class confirmations on September 1 from midday. Parents may add to their choices as availability allows.
Please note that oversubscribed classes go to lottery—if your child misses out on a lottery we will automatically add them to stay & play for that time.
Parents are advised to carefully consider choices before enrolling. We require only one registration form per child.
Class limits are instituted in an effort to avoid overwhelming children, and so that all may participate
For students in Kindergarten, we strongly recommend no more than two hours per week
For students in Grades 1–4, we strongly recommend no more than five hours per week
Children are bussed to off-campus ASP venues and then back to ASL for dismissal. All home bound busses depart from ASL.
Normally in the case of canceled classes due to a tube strike classes will not be reimbursed.
Please note, there are now no Aquatics ASP sessions. All swimming classes are now run by the Aquatic & Fitness center. Questions to swim@asl.org.

Payments & cancelations

On Friday, 1 September, you will be able to view initial confirmation of the classes in which your children have been successfully placed in Veracross. Please note that oversubscribed classes go to lottery. Only successful placements are listed in the confirmations.
From Friday, 1 September until midday on, September 18, you can amend your choices, without incurring cancellation fees. Cancellations made after midday on, September 18, and before midday on Tuesday, September 19, will incur a 50% cancellation fee.
If your child withdraws from a class after Tuesday, September 19, the full class fee will apply.
You will be invoiced during the third week of the spring ASP term. This invoice will include all ASP class fees and any cancellation fees.
Some classes may be cancelled owing to under-enrollment
‘Same-day’ changes are possible (depending on availability), with any greater fees applying. A switch from a two-hour class to a ‘same-day’ one hour class will see the relevant cancellation fee applied to the second hour only. Any requests for a class move to a different day are regarded as separate registrations.
We will be unable to process your application unless all fees from previous terms have been paid.
Normally in the case of cancelled classes due to a tube strike classes will not be reimbursed.
