ASL and the Nirvana School

For 15+ years, ASL teachers and families have built a relationship with teachers and students at Nirvana School in Pondicherry, India. Working together, we have helped contribute to the installation of solar panels and the development of a remodeled playground. ASL teachers have led workshops on classroom engagement strategies and participated in cultural presentations and awards day ceremonies.  We have also welcomed Nirvana's Lower School Principal to our campus to help us learn about his school and community.

Last year we made the decision to continue this partnership as a meaningful professional development experience for teachers. The partnership continues to grow and thrive as we introduce new members of our community to Nirvana and reflect on the ways in which we can grow, both personally and professionally, from this experience. Each February, a team of educators spend a week in Nirvana's classrooms learning more about the Tamil culture and the ways in which the school enriches the lives of its members through academic and extracurricular activities. During the trip we are also supported by teachers at the American International School in Chennai (AISC) who have helped our faculty deepen their understanding of educational resources in the region and Indian culture more generally.
