Lower School
Community Action plays a key role in the Lower School's educational program. Much of our work at this age focuses on community engagement opportunities—these programs broaden our students' perspective as they learn from and alongside members of the broader community.
Community Action in the Lower School is led by our three Lower School Community Action Coordinators: Lynn Sacks (K1-K2), Connor Frame (Grades 1), Catalina Cuadrado (Grades 3), and Lillian Petersen (Grade 4).
They are greatly supported by the Parent Community Association's Community Engagement Committee and its parent reps.
Key initiatives are spread across the year groups and in previous years and link to each grades' learning goals. Past projects have included:
Grade 1: Reading with Elders program: Elders from the wider community come in and read to, and with, our Grade 1 students.
K1/K2 and Grade 2: Cards of Care Projects: Students send cards to isolated elders in the local community.
Grade 3: Granville Community Kitchen Food Project: Students learn about hunger in the local community, and organize a food drive to benefit Granville Community Kitchen.
