Critically acclaimed poet Daljit Nagra is on campus this week, spending time working with high school English students and holding workshops for English teachers. In addition, he will present the 2017 Bergeron Lecture later this week. Read more about the ASL Bergeron Writing Fellowship.
On Monday, 13 March, Daljit joined high school students and faculty for a special assembly. He read from his work and reflected on his background growing up in Britain as the child of migrants from India, and shared two of his poems, “Ode to Harrow” and “Singh Song.” He then opened up the floor to questions, and discussed everything from the complexities of identity to writing as an act of rebellion.

“He’s great in conversation with students,” commented Head of HS English Eve Ellis. “He’s funny, thoughtful and warm, and an engaging performer of his own work.”
Daljit is the current Poet in Residence for BBC Radio 4, and the winner of the 2007 Forward Prize for Best First Collection. His works include two poetry collections and “Ramayana: A Retelling,” which was shortlisted for the 2014 T.S. Eliot Prize. His third volume of poetry will be published in May.

It’s not too late to come along to see Daljit in action at our Bergeron Lecture! Join us on Thursday, 16 March, 6:30 for 7 pm. RSVP now!
