Annual report 2019-20

Robin Appleby P ’24
Head of School

Welcome to ASL’s Annual Report 2019-20. This past school year saw us navigate unprecedented world events and many resulting personal challenges. Together, as a supportive community, we embraced new norms and learning experiences, while continuing to uphold ASL’s mission and core values.

This report tells the stories of an unforgettable year for ASL—one in which, despite the challenges COVID-19, we developed together a new diversity, equity and inclusion statement, delivered a successful distance learning plan, and focused, as a community, on inclusivity.

Our annual report also honors the many volunteers and donors who support our ASL community in myriad ways. The generosity and dedication of ASL families across seven decades have ensured the past, present and future of our School. On behalf of the students who benefit from this community’s outstanding commitment and partnership, I thank you.

Our Annual Report 2019-20 recognizes the time and resources our community dedicated to the School in the past year.

In these uncertain times, the extraordinary support of those within our ASL community is all the more appreciated, and without doubt essential to the learning that takes place. We have been reminded more than ever of the value of our community to the overall experience of our students and families. As we seek to continue to provide excellence in education—either from a distance or in person— and present evolving opportunities for our students to thrive, the commitment of our parents, faculty and staff, alumni, parents of alumni and friends, is vital to the success of our school.

To those who volunteer their time, make gifts to the School, and support our ASL family in so many ways, I extend my sincere appreciation and gratitude.
