Susan & David
Susan Findeiss ’71 and David Austin ’70
How did you meet? I believe it was at the American Church in London.
What was your first impression of Susie? She was cool! She had a hippie look and could really sing.
What was your first date? We had dinner in Houston, Texas, post-college. We had gone our separate ways after ASL, but I tracked her down when I learned we were in the same city. Our shared overseas experience provided a bond and does so today. ASL was a unique experience that only another ASLer can fully appreciate.
How would your ASL teachers and friends describe your relationship at school? We were just classmates and friends back then.
What is your favorite shared ASL memory? Probably our spring break ski trip to Italy. I was beginning to feel real attraction to her, but it wasn't reciprocated at the time. She was also sick during part of the trip, which I like to think clouded her vision.
What is your favorite thing about Susie? Her love and commitment.
Describe your life today. We have been living in El Paso, Texas, since 1983. We raised two kids. I'm semi-retired, working part-time for El Paso Community College. Susie is still working full-time as chief counsel to a large school district.
Where do you see yourselves in 10 years? Visiting far away places. As we haltingly creep into senior status, we find that the experiences and the bonds we formed with our ASL classmates grow even stronger.
