How did you meet? We were both in an introductory art class our freshman year, painting and drawing, but we never spoke. We became friends our junior year through mutual friends and often chatted during home basketball games. I performed at half-time with the dance team and he would cheer on the Eagles after swim practice.

What was your first impression of Cameron? After one of our initial conversations, I thought to myself, wow, he’s really nice. Why aren’t we friends?

What was your first date? Cameron asked me out during our free period on his birthday, and we went out on Valentine’s Day four days later. He picked me up from ASL after my play rehearsal and brought me flowers. We had an amazing time chatting away over dinner and afterward he escorted me home on the tube.

How would your friends and teachers describe your relationship in high school? Our friends have had a running bet about when (not if!) we would get married. Everyone, including our parents, always knew we would end up together. Mr. Mazzenga (ASL 2010-present) once had us read a passage aloud as Romeo and Juliet in English class. Now, we’re seen as the mom and dad of our friend group.

What are some of your favorite ASL memories? We were each other’s prom date twice, and had so much fun both times.

What is your favorite thing about Cameron? He’s such a mensch—incredibly kind, caring, friendly and easygoing. Nobody dislikes Cameron. He’s very patient and stable, which is a great balance for someone as energetic and anxious as me. He has been 100% committed to our relationship since that first date at ASL, and is a deeply loyal person.

Describe your life today. We just moved to Los Angeles together. Cameron is a junior financial planner and I am looking for work in television writing. We’re planning on getting married in 2022. After getting engaged over Thanksgiving, we called our best friends from ASL to share the news. They already knew and had been discussing it together!

Where do you see yourselves in 10 years? Hopefully we will have two babies, stable careers and a house would also be nice.

Engaged! Thanksgiving 2020
