Sean Brecker '93 delivers 2022 commencement address

Alumnus Sean Brecker addresses graduates at Central Hall Westminster on 11 June

When Sean Brecker was asked to be ASL’s commencement speaker, no one could have predicted it would take this illustrious Class of 1993 alumnus and CFO of Headspace Health more than two years to accept that invitation. Initially set to present to the Class of 2020, Sean’s keynote address was postponed, twice, owing to COVID. Thankfully, this year’s senior class was able to enjoy a full-scale graduation ceremony at Central Hall Westminster in June, and Sean was able to join them at last.

In addition to being a guest of honor at ASL’s 2022 commencement, Sean, his family and several classmates spent the weekend in London enjoying one another’s company on and off campus.

The festivities kicked off on Friday, 10 June, with a special ASL tour for the '93 visitors and their guests.

Afterward, parents, alumni parents, faculty, staff, former teachers, alumni and students gathered in the Mellon Library for a reception in Sean’s honor.

The ’93 alumni were among the attendees at ASL’s commencement exercises on Saturday, 11 June, and had the privilege of cheering Sean on as he took his place at the podium. Sean’s message to the Class of 2022 was threefold: to stay close to their classmates and the ASL community, to focus on their mental health, and to not be afraid of making mistakes. “Ask yourself, ‘what can I learn from this experience?’” Sean encouraged the graduates. “Put those learnings towards being a better you. And then give yourself a break.”

Thank you, Sean, and congratulations, graduates! Once an Eagle, always an Eagle!
