Sacha McVean (ASL 2017-present)
What’s your connection to ASL?
My connection to ASL started in friendship and continues to be encouraged and enriched through relationships. I joined ASL five years ago as the Lower School Principal, following the encouragement of my dear friend and artist Robert Davis (ASL 2015-17). Today, I am grateful that I have personal and professional connections across the School.
How do you reconnect with long-distance friends or family?
Throughout the year, I stay connected with friends and family by sharing photographs, poems, books, movies and stories that often lead to laughter. I also make an annual visit home to California to spend time with my family.
How do you stay connected to your...
Community? I feel fortunate to live within walking distance to school so I stay connected by walking through my neighborhood each day, visiting bookshops, markets, cafes and favorite spots in the parks.
Colleagues? My role at ASL allows me to walk through the building regularly. I am also able to join colleagues for lunch at the picnic tables outside when the sun shines!
Joy? Horseback riding has always brought me a great deal of joy. Since moving to London, I found a beautiful stable in Richmond and I ride there every Saturday and then spend the day walking along the Thames, having a leisurely lunch and perhaps a nap in a meadow.
Well-being? In addition to riding horses, I love to walk and practice yoga. I also enjoy cooking and quiet moments in natural spaces. Through these activities, I am usually able to achieve a good work life balance.
