Races and reunions at Boston’s Head of the Charles Regatta!

It was a beautiful weekend in Boston, and ASL was honored to send some of its crew team to the internationally renowned Head of the Charles Regatta to take part—and we were thrilled, too, to really make a weekend of it by assembling some young alumni in the Boston area for a fun Saturday lunch!

This year, 11 rowers—boys and girls from Grades 10, 11 and 12—headed west for the races, accompanied by rowing coaches and Director of Athletics John Farmer ’97.

“The Head of the Charles and Henley are the two biggest competitions on the rowing calendar every year,” says John. “This is a truly world-class event, with thousands of people who show up annually. It sort of takes over the city.”

The 11 Eagles who raced in Boston did so in five boats: a boys single, girls single, boys double, girls double, and boys coxed quad. After training on the Charles on Thursday and Friday, and taking a rest day Saturday while the river was closed off for older rowers’ competitions, our rowers put forth incredible efforts during their Sunday races. We are so proud and glad to have everyone back on the Thames again!

Meanwhile, as our rowers rested on Saturday, John Farmer met up with local young alumni whose colleges are in the Boston area, and took the group out for a delicious Mexican lunch in Back Bay. We love bringing Eagles back together, and trading stories of life after ASL over a shared meal!
