Class of 1974 Celebrates Golden Reunion at ASL
ASL’s Class of 1974 marked a special milestone as they returned to One Waverley Place for their 50th reunion. The event was a heartfelt homecoming, filled with nostalgia, (re)connections, and reflections on the school’s enduring spirit. Alumni enjoyed campus tours, student meetings, and a celebratory gathering—and the reunion highlighted the timeless bond shared between ASL alumni and their alma mater.
The Class of 1974 had just begun their high school journey when the new ASL building—our home since 1971—first opened its doors. Now, 50 years after their graduation, the school has grown, been renovated, and modernized, but its heart (and signature dark brick exterior) remains largely the same. For the Class of 1974, who gathered at One Waverley Place on Thursday, September 26, to celebrate their 50th reunion, it truly felt like coming home.
The festivities kicked off with warm greetings and fist bumps from our beloved Eagle mascot, followed by campus tours, class visits, and plenty of opportunities to engage with current ASL students. Betsy Minden ’74, Barbie (Okamoto) Bach ’74, and Sarah Bach had thought-provoking conversations with members of the high school Sustainability Council about careers in environmental protection and planning. Meanwhile, alumni from the Classes of 1974 and 1975, along with some of their former teachers, were interviewed by student editors of The Standard.
The evening culminated in a vibrant celebration of togetherness in the Community Arts Building gallery. Alumni and former faculty gathered to hear remarks from Head of School Matt Horvat, flip through old yearbooks, and reminisce about their ASL days. Five decades have flown by for these proud Eagles!
