Buck Herron (ASL 1998-2020)

What’s your connection to ASL?

I taught drama and directed productions in the High School for 22 years, retiring in June 2020.

How do you reconnect with long-distance friends or family?

Mostly on WhatsApp. I correspond daily with three of my siblings, which I so enjoy and look forward to. I also have a WhatsApp group with two former colleagues and an alumni parent. I especially appreciated our group chat last November throughout the US election. We also came together to speak about the terrible capital riot as it unfolded.

How do you stay connected to your...

Colleagues? I enjoyed meeting up on Zoom with a few alumni parents who assisted with our productions over the years. Just staying in touch and lifting each other's spirits during the pandemic was so valuable. I also hear from former students via email, which always makes my day. It is great to still be in touch with them and hear how their lives are unfolding.

Joy? I am enjoying physical work on my cottage at the moment, reading good books and plays and keeping in contact with friends.

Well-being? I was given a bike by my partner last Christmas, which I enjoy riding on the beautiful country roads of Ireland. The extra time to sleep in is also a big plus in retirement. Soon, I will be returning to California to have a nice extended visit with my family and friends. And, as the world opens up, I hope to travel more and continue to see the world.
