Board of Trustees
The American School in London is governed by a Board of Trustees, which oversees the school’s adherence to its mission and values; appoints, supports, evaluates and works closely with the Head of School; oversees financial and institutional affairs; and conducts periodic strategic planning for the growth and evolution of the School. The Board works in partnership with the Head of School and delegates the responsibility for the day-to-day administration, programming and operations of the School to the Head.
The Board is organized into seven standing committees: Admin/Finance, Advancement, Buildings & Grounds, Independent School Standards Compliance, Investment, Student Experience, and Governance. Additionally, the Executive Committee comprises the chair, vice chair and all committee chairs on the Board. The Board is composed of approximately 25 members, a typical size for US independent schools, and members serve three-year renewable terms up to three terms.
The Board of Trustees endeavors to ensure that the composition of the Board is representative of the community, contributes diverse perspectives, and delivers the expertise and resources needed for the Board to carry out its work and to support the School to fulfill its promise and achieve its mission.
