Annual Report 2015-16

Message from Head of School

As I write the introduction for this Annual Report, it certainly feels more like a thank-you note than a yearly report. I look out the window of my home here on campus, and I see a wonderful new playground and a stunning new arts building, and a glimpse of the new science labs and makerspace. I also know that right below the playground is a brand new swimming pool and fitness suite. Who could have imagined that ASL would have the leading edge campus that it enjoys today? At the very same time, as our community was participating in ASL's largest capital campaign ever, the Annual Fund for 2015-16 was going gangbusters. More parents than ever demonstrated their commitment to our school. A huge thank you for everything!

ASL runs in part through the good graces of one of the most remarkable volunteer corps I have ever known. One cannot walk through any part of our campus without seeing the impact of our volunteer community. Think Global Festival, service-learning coordinators, Booster Club, Friends of the Arts, American Memorial Collection, room parents, and so much more-and I include here those parents who bring good ideas and thoughtful insight to the Head of School!

With the coming of fall, I find myself wistful about my June departure from a place that I have loved deeply for more than a decade. When I talk with my children, now grown, about what has been important to me, it always comes back to the people in my life-and I tell them that here in London it's the students, parents, alumni, faculty, staff, administrators, and friends of our school. How fortunate I am.

The year is already off to a great start, and I anticipate that it will be special for our students and, I hope, for the entire school community as well. I know it will be for me.

Message from Board Chair

This has been another dynamic year at ASL, highlighted by a vibrant and engaging Global Festival and the conclusion of our hugely successful capital campaign, New Frontiers. Our talented and accomplished students are now utilizing the new art, science and physical education facilities that are the fruit of your generosity; our endowment for financial assistance is growing and will allow us to strive toward even greater diversity in our student body; and our healthy Annual Fund continues to ensure excellence for our entire program. I feel great pride in what we have achieved this year as a community. Those who shared with us their time, talent and resources have shown their true ASL colors. Thank you.

Message from Annual Fund Chairs

It has been an honor to serve as 2015–16 Annual Fund Chairs.

We believe in ASL, its mission and the incredible teachers who give so much to our children. Their passion and ability to bring out the best in each child is made possible by the Annual Fund.

This year, we assembled the largest team of parent volunteers to date, who dedicated their time and effort in pursuit of the Annual Fund’s goals. Thank you to the volunteers, and to the parent and alumni community for their generous financial support and participation.

We have much to celebrate and appreciate ASL for the special place it is for both children and ASL families.
