Gift Aid

There are two significant ways you can maximize your gifts to ASL—through Gift Aid and corporate matching gifts.

Gift Aid is the UK government's program to encourage gifts to charities. If you are a UK taxpayer, using Gift Aid means that for every pound you give, ASL gets an extra 25 pence from the Inland Revenue, helping your donation go further. This means that £100 can be turned into £125 if the donation has been made through Gift Aid.

To qualify for Gift Aid, what you pay in income tax or capital gains tax must at least equal the amount we will claim in the tax year. Please be aware that gifts of stock do not qualify for Gift Aid. Please print out, fill in and return to ASL this form to allow us to claim Gift Aid on your contributions to the School.

Corporate matching gifts

Corporate matching gifts also allow you to maximize your gifts to ASL. Many corporations support their employees' charitable contributions through matching gift programs. When making an Annual Fund gift, please keep in mind:

  • Matching gift programs can double or triple the value of your gift to the School.
  • In 2011-12, £56,571 was received from corporate matches.
  • As the donor responsible for bringing in the matching funds, you will be acknowledged in the School's annual report in the giving society that reflects your gift in addition to the match.
  • Your company also receives credit in the Annual Report.

Check with your employer's human resources office to confirm that your company matches gifts to independent schools and to obtain the relevant forms for your participation.

For more information about matching gifts, please contact Erin Herzeelle, Associate Director of Advancement for Annual Giving, at +44 (0)20 7449 1446, erin_herzeelle@asl.org.
