To the ASL Community,
We want to brief you on the process for hiring our eighth Head of the American School in London. Since Coreen Hester announced her decision to step down at the end of the 2016-17 academic year, we have begun the search process to identify the next Head of School to lead ASL.
A sub-committee of the Board of Trustees has been formed to guide the search process, co-chaired by Board Chair Dave Novak and Vice Chair Julie Skattum. The search committee includes board members Derek Bandeen, Alison LeMaire, Dwight Poler, Elaine Proctor-Bonbright and Erin Roth, and representatives from the faculty, staff and administration: Robyn Chapel, Neil Morjaria and Jennifer Towleh.
We have now appointed a search consultant to help us identify and attract the best candidates in our search for ASL’s next Head of School. This appointment was the culmination of interviewing multiple search firms with expertise in education consulting. We conducted thorough research and reference checks and after careful consideration, we selected Carney, Sandoe & Associates, a search company based in Boston with deep school search experience in the US and internationally, and exceptional knowledge of ASL.
An important component of the search process is to develop a comprehensive position profile that captures the essence of ASL and identifies the qualifications we seek in our next Head of School, among other things. Carney Sandoe will publicize and actively seek candidates based on the position profile. The Carney Sandoe team of three—John Chandler, Ben Bolte and Barbara Chase—will be on campus Monday–Wednesday (14-16 March) next week to meet with parents, faculty, staff, administrators, trustees and students to invite feedback from our community. We have scheduled two parent forums for the dates below. These forums will provide an opportunity for the Carney Sandoe team to give an overview of the search process and to seek feedback from parents.
Monday, 14 March, Mellon Library, 7–8:30 pm
Tuesday, 15 March, Boardroom, 8–9:20 am
We encourage everyone to participate in this important process and we look forward to as many of you as possible providing your input. If you are unable to make these sessions, there will be another opportunity to share your thoughts via a survey that we expect to distribute shortly.
We are committed to running a thorough and inclusive search process and we will continue to keep everyone apprised of our progress as the search proceeds. Up-to-date information on our Head of School search may be found on our website.
We remain confident of attracting an excellent pool of candidates for this important role at our school through the endeavors of Carney Sandoe and ASL’s standing in the global community.
Sincerely,
Dave Novak
